The often-stated adage, “Ignorance is bliss” used to be applicable here. However, by not privately banking a baby’s cord blood, or at least donating it, parents completely squander a one-time opportunity to save something that could be incredibly valuable and potentially lifesaving for mothers, their babies and their relatives. It has been stated that “Saving a baby’s cord blood is like converting waste into gold.” With all of the current uses combined with cord blood stem cells’ massive potential, this statement grows stronger each day that passes.
